Jennifer for Equality

Jennifer è intervenuta al gala della Campagna per i diritti umani (HRC), tenutasi 20 ottobre presso il Fairmont Chicago Millennium Park. L'attrice è stata premiata per il Ally For Equality Award at the 2012. Lei attivista per diritti umani da sempre, è entrata in una travolgente standing ovation tenendo un discorso articolato e divertente quando ha ritirato il premio.

"It is so important that we all have each other's backs, It is my pleasure to use my voice, heart, and mind to empower the community, and I long for a day when the ally award will be obsolete."

Poi ha ricordato l’aneddoto di quando andò a cena con il marito durante le riprese de Il pilota L Word, e che a un certo punto, si chinò e la baciò.

"I realized then that if we were a gay couple, this event would have been very important… and it hurt my heart, It spoke not only to my sense of otherness, but also to my sense of being marginalized as a woman, because homophobia is, after all, a form of misogyny. And I, for one, will be damned if someone thinks it is somehow elevating to be confined to a binder."
